Upcoming future mobiles

Anonymous 4Chan user: Let’s not forget the Samsung Galaxy S III

samsung-galaxy-s-iii-rumor
New rumors about the magnificent upcoming Nexus device are all the rage right now. We may be so excited about the new Nexus phone that we’ve partly ignored the news about the Samsung Galaxy S III. If these rumors prove to be true, that phone will be quite the beast–even better than the Nexus Prime.
Samsung Galaxy S smartphones always come with specs that surpass most devices. Such might be the case for the upcoming successor in 2012. While the anonymous 4Chan user did not get to play with a working device, he claims to have seen images and heard Samsung representatives speak of some impressive features.
According to the sources, Samsung is planning to reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung will try to get a simultaneous worldwide release for the Galaxy S III mid 2012.” This is to be expected, as Samsung also announced the latest Galaxy S device during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. If we look at the supposed specs, though, jaws really start dropping:
The specifications for the SGSIII are of course subject to change, but are Samsung-developed 2.0GHz quad-core CPU (no codename given), 1.5gb RAM, 32gb internal memory (with sd card slot), and a 4.65 inch screen. A new display called Super AMOLED III is being developed specifically for the phone (SGS had Super AMOLED, SGS II had Super AMOLED Plus, SGS III has Super AMOLED III) with 1280x1024 resolution, giving the phone a ppi of 352, which they emphasized that a 352ppi will make it the highest ppi mobile phone.ANONYMOUS4Chan user
While some seem a bit doubtful, these are some stunning specs! We’d heard of a possible 2 GHz dual-core processor (check out CNET’s report on it), most likely due to the new 28nm CPUs (clockable to up to 2.5 GHz). A quad-core processor clocked at those speeds would simply be a game-changer, though. Such a CPU would be stronger than many current PC processors.
As expected from Samsung devices, the screen will be beautiful. Measuring 4.65-inches diagonally and sporting the successor of the Super AMOLED Plus display, media should be looking quite bright and beautiful. We really do not know how much better Super AMOLED III could be (can they really make the display that much better?), but the resolution is the big shocker. 1280 x 1024p on a 4.65-inch screen is simply out of this world. This should be a mistake, since the aspect ratio is definitely off (4:3). Maybe the anonymous poster meant to say 1280x720p?
If you happen to like having the latest software and don’t like manufacturer UI overlays, the following will definitely come as great news. Ice Cream Sandwich might not be as awesome by then, though. Who knows – Maybe not even the latest…
The phone will have Androids latest Ice Cream Sandwich software and an all new TouchWiz 5 which has been in co-development with Google during the development of the Galaxy Nexus, so according to the Samsung representatives, it isn’t as “intrusive to Android” as previous TouchWiz versions were. It seems TouchWiz will play a minor role and only have little improvements to ICS. It won’t control the user experience. One of the reasons why they’re not going with a full TouchWiz experience is for a few reasons, one being that the ICS experience is very user friendly already and also it will also Samsung to update software on their phones at a faster rate than they have in the past.ANONYMOUS4Chan user
The device also “has a 2250 mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second,” and “will come with an inbuilt NFC chip.” We are yet to see how much juice a device like this would suck out of a battery, but 2250 mAh sounds like it should get you through the day easily.
The device is 9mm thick, has a metal and glass body (a really clean, shiny look to it in the pictures)ANONYMOUS4Chan user
When it comes to aesthetics, Samsung is sure not to stay behind. As you can see in the quoted text to the left, this manufacturer will continue to bring among the slimmest and better-looking phones out there.
Whoa there, Samsung! We know some of these rumored specs might not end up being completely true. If most happen to make it to the Samsung Galaxy S III, though, this might just make the phone to have in 2012. If this is what next year’s devices will be sporting, the future cannot come fast enough. What do you guys think of these rumored specs? Were you expecting something better out of 2012? Are you impressed? Who’s looking forward to a device like this? Imagine what overclocking this beast would be like…
It is important to note that the information given is still based on rumors. The fact that it comes from an anonymous source may be somewhat odd , but we are simply presenting it to our readers for speculation. We definitely believe that some of these specs might not be as far-fetched as they seem (for a 2012 device), when other details seem improbable (screen definition being the main one). Which of these rumored specs seem dubious to you, guys?

Samsung Galaxy S III:
I personally found their talk of the Galaxy S III much more interesting. They didn’t have a working model of the phone, but they had pictures and slides with specs/info:
- Samsung is planning to reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung will try to get a simultaneous worldwide release for the Galaxy S III mid 2012.
- The Samsung representatives were happy with the success of the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S II, their great relationship with Google and Android, and were talking about how they’re constantly trying to push the boundaries of mobile hardware technology. They revealed that the Galaxy S III will be their next flagship phone in 2012.
- The specifications for the SGSIII are of course subject to change, but are Samsung-developed 2.0GHz quad-core CPU (no codename given), 1.5gb RAM, 32gb internal memory (with sd card slot), and a 4.65 inch screen. A new display called Super AMOLED III is being developed specifically for the phone (SGS had Super AMOLED, SGS II had Super AMOLED Plus, SGS III has Super AMOLED III) with 1280x1024 resolution, giving the phone a ppi of 352, which they emphasized that a 352ppi will make it the highest ppi mobile phone.
- The reason for no demo phone was that the screen technology was still in the final stages of design and production of them have not started.
- The device is 9mm thick, has a metal and glass body (a really clean, shiny look to it in the pictures), has a 2250mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second.
- The phone will come with an inbuilt NFC chip.
- The phone will have Androids latest Ice Cream Sandwich software and an all new TouchWiz 5 which has been in co-development with Google during the development of the Galaxy Nexus, so according to the Samsung representatives, it isn’t as “intrusive to Android” as previous TouchWiz versions were. - Price wasn’t revealed, but for all the specs of the phone, I’m guessing it’ll be very expensive.ANONYMOUS4Chan user

The Legacy continues: Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman announced

sony-ericssons-walkman
Just when we thought it was gone forever, the Walkman brand makes its glorious return, this time with Android. Sony has just announced the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. And while it’s not a superphone, it definitely holds its own.
Sony Ericsson is known for its unique designs, and the Sony Ericsson Live is no exception. This music-centric device is looking pretty good for one of those smaller, more affordable smartphones. Let’s take a look at the specs.

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman Specifications

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 1 GHz single-core processor
  • 3.2-inch display (320x480p)
  • 320 MB of on-board memory with a 2 GB microSD card (supports up to 32 GB cards)
  • VGA front-facing camera / 5 MP rear-facing camera (records in 720p)
  • 1200 mAh battery
As already mentioned, these specs won’t blow your mind. But this device is made for entertainment purposes (mainly music). It is small, which makes it easier to carry around, and it comes with music-centric adaptations. The most important feature for music lovers is Sony’s xLoud technology. This allows you to boost your volume without having to sacrifice quality, which is an issue with most devices.
This phone also comes with Sony’s Qriocity integration, allowing you to listen to music and watch videos on the go (in the cloud). You might also enjoy the fact that the Sony Ericsson Live comes with TrackID, which identifies unknown songs, and the infinite button for better music searching.
A very important factor, especially for a media device, is the battery life. You’ve got to be able to go through a day of listening to music while keeping some of that juice for communication purposes. While this device comes with a tiny 1200 mAh battery, it actually lasts as long as most extended batteries do. This device gives you up to 600 hours of standby, 17.5 hours of music listening, 6.5 hours of video and over 14 hours of talk time. Not bad, Sony Ericsson. Not bad at all.
While price and availability are still unknown, this should be an affordable smartphone. Markets are not yet specified, but this device is said to start rolling out during the fourth quarter of 2011 in select countries worldwide. What do you guys say? Liking the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman?

Galaxy S II Mali-400 GPU boasts fastest graphics on the market

samsung-galaxy-s-ii-stars
If you’re looking for the best of the best in smartphone graphics processing, the Mali-400 GPU found in the Samsung Galaxy S II is where it’s at.
In a series of recent tests run by the reputable AnandTech, the Mali-400 came out on top when pitted against other popular smartphone GPUs. According to the tests, the 4-core Mali-400 MP4 paired with Samsung’s Exynos 4210 is anywhere from 1.7 to 4 times faster than anything else currently shipping. Triangle throughput wasn’t the best (which could be a problem for future games), but in every other category the Mali smashed the competition.
While benchmarks aren’t the final say in how a device preforms in real-world activities, AnandTech was sure to address that. During a review for the device, AnandTech writer Brian Klug noted just how excellent of an experience Samsung has provided. He found it to be “the smoothest experience by an order of magnitude compared to any currently available Android phone.” And in typical AnandTech-fashion, this too was backed by some comprehensive benchmark tests.
Other GPUs used in the tests included the PowerVR SGX 540 @ 300MHz (Optimus 3D), Adreno 220 (EVO 3D), GeForce ULP (LG Optmus 2X) and the PowerVR SGX 540 (Nexus S) among others. Click here for a full report of the benchmarks used.

Is LG secretly working on a “Galaxy S II killer”?

lg-u-plus
Earlier this month I received an interesting tip that LG was going to reveal a “Galaxy S II killer” sometime next week. Those were some strong words, and we haven’t seen many LG leaks recently. So, it really got me thinking. What could LG possibly be working on that would make Android fans forget about the Samsung Galaxy S II?
Today the guys at GSMArena uncovered a Korean promo site for the upcoming LG U+ LTE. Highlights of the device include a 4.5-inch AH-IPS 720HD display, 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and support for LTE download speeds of 75 Mbps.
Unconfirmed specs of the LG U+ LTE (LU6200) include:
  • 4.5-inch AH-IPS display with True HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels)
  • 1.5 GHz dual-core processor Snapdragon S3 (MSM8660)
  • 1 GB RAM
  • LTE speeds up to 75 Mbps
  • 132.9 x 67.9 x 10.5 mm, 123 g
  • WiFi Direct, MHL, DLNA
Overall, this LG device sounds very similar to the HTC Vigor/Incredible HD and I have a feeling it could become the LG Revolution 2 that is rumored for a October 20th release.
For a new superphone to be considered a current-generation killer, I think it would need to boast some more next-generation hardware. The LG made AH-IPS display is a nice start, and it appears to be superior to Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus. But the rest of the specs are what we expect from a high-end device launching this year.
Looking back at last year, this is about the time when LG announced the first dual-core phone, which became the Optimus 2x. We heard earlier this year that LG might have the first quad-core phone, so an announcement might be coming soon.
Initially we were expecting the first quad-core phone to land this year, but NVIDIA recently said their Kal-El (Tegra 3) version for smartphones would not arrive until Q1 2012.
