HTC Vigor to launch as DROID Incredible HD on October 13?

htc_droid_incredible_hd
As we count down the hours until HTC’s press event next week, it’s only natural to see more leaks regarding the HTC Vigor–”the World’s first HD smartphone.” The latest leaked document shows the HTC Vigor’s specs and reveals that the phone will launch as the HTC DROID Incredible HD. The HTC DROID Incredible HD name surfaced last December and was originally associated with the HTC Mecha, which eventually launched as the Thunderbolt.
Along with the name change, the document reveals that the HTC DROID Incredible HD will be available in all channels on October 13 and will ship with a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre studio earbuds, a 32 GB class 10 microSD card and a 1630 mAh battery.
While most of these new details seem plausible based on rumors about other HTC phones, the validity of the leaked document is still questionable. There are a few contradictions within the document, but it’s not like we haven’t seen that from official spec sheets in the past. Either way, we’re expecting to learn more about the HTC DROID Incredible HD next week, and we’re certainly looking forward to its mid-October release.

HTC gets all musical on us: HTC Bliss and Runnymede will launch as Rhyme and Bass

htc_runnymede
Man, somebody at HTC is a huge music junkie. First it was the famous Italian composers, then it was the HTC ChaCha and Salsa, after that it was the whole thing with Beats Audio. And now the Taiwanese company is getting ready to launch two more phones with a somewhat musical personality. Meet the HTC Rhyme and the HTC Bass, previously known as the HTC Bliss and HTC Runnymede.
According to Handtec, the HTC Runnymede will launch as the HTC Bass, and it should become available in early October. As for the HTC Bliss, HTCInside is reporting that the phone will launch with the name HTC Rhyme. If you’re interested in snapping one of these up, you’ll be happy to know that HTC could announce them as soon as next week. Although it looks like you’ll have to be a Verizon customer to get one.
In summary, we have two new HTC phones coming out in the very near future with a whole musical theme going on. Both devices sit on the mid-range to high-end section of the market (thanks to a surprisingly impressive spec sheet). So what say you? Are you ready to get your groove on with either of these devices? As for me, I’m waiting patiently for the one they call Nexus Prime.

Rumor: Nexus Prime looks like a taller Nexus S, coming to Verizon first

optimus-prime
New day, new Nexus Prime rumors. Today’s spoonful of he said/she said is brought to you by the guys over at TheDroidGuy. As always, everything I say from this point on is based on rumors and shouldn’t be taken as fact. With that out of the way, let’s dig in.
The lucky chaps over at TheDroidGuy have somehow managed to get their hands on a demo unit of the Nexus Prime. Apparently, this happened at Verizon’s developer conference in Las Vegas, where Kyle from TDG spotted a Samsung device he had never seen before. As any true Android fan would do, Kyle proceeded to inquire about this mysterious new phone. The person agreed to show him the phone and took him to an office, checked him for cameras and, of course, deprived him of any electronic devices and/or hats.
After having played around with the device, Kyle confirmed the phone will have the following specs:
  • TI dual-core OMAP processor (most likely OMAP 4460)
  • 8 MP rear-facing camera
  • 2 MP front-facing camera
  • NFC support
  • MHL support
  • HDMI support
Additionally, the phone is supposedly a little bit thicker and taller than the Nexus S. Also, the device has no hardware buttons except for the Power, Home and Volume buttons. If you were hoping that Google would not kill the Menu and Back buttons, it looks like you’ll be disappointed. Finally, the phone will arrive in late October or early November, says TDG. Verizon should get it first, followed by other carriers.
What do you guys think about these rumors? Do they hold any water? If so, will you miss the Back and Menu buttons? Let us know in the comments.

Anonymous 4chan user goes hands-on with Nexus Prime

As far as rumors of the upcoming Google Nexus Prime and the Ice Cream Sandwich go, it doesn't get better than this. An anonymous user on 4chan claims to have got some hands-on time with the Nexus Prime, courtesy of Samsung and he has provided a fairly detailed account of his experience with it. So without wasting any more time, let's get on with the juicy details.
  • Anonymous refers to the device as Samsung Galaxy Nexus, although this could just be a working title. There's no way a Google phone can have the Galaxy title.
  • The phone looks similar to the Sprint version of Galaxy S II but also has a curved glass like the one on the Nexus S. The device is fairly large in size. It will weigh around 130-140g and will use metal for the body. It is said to be just 8.8mm thick and will have a 2000mAh battery.
  • Verizon will be having exclusive rights to the Nexus Prime, which is why they gave up on the US version of the Galaxy S II.
  • He mentions that the phone had a 4.65-inch, Super AMOLED Plus display with a 1280 x 720 resolution (1280 x 800 seems a bit more likely to us, looking at the display on the Galaxy Note).
  • It will be running on Samsung's dual-core Exynos processor, clocked at 1.5GHz and will have 1GB of RAM and 16GB internal memory, with the option to expand it further.
  • The phone was said to be blazing fast and felt very smooth. This obviously has a lot to do with the powerful processor and we believe ICS will also bring some performance improvements.
  • There was no mention about the camera on the device but we think it is fairly clear to everyone by now that it will have an 8 megapixel camera with HD video recording.
That’s all we know about the hardware for now but Mr. Anonymous also had a lot to say about the software. Here’s what he had to say about Ice Cream Sandwich running on the Nexus Prime.
  • It looks bit similar to the current Gingerbread but a lot more polished. The UI has a glassy look, same as the one in Honeycomb.
  • The version of the OS on the demo unit was 2.4.1. It is unlikely that this will be the final version of the OS for a simple reason that the current Honeycomb tablets are running on 3.2 and if Ice Cream Sandwich is 2.4 instead of 4.0 as is widely believed then it will seem as a step down for current Honeycomb users, at least as far as the version number is concerned.
  • Just like in Honeycomb, the application drawer has categories on top. We have seen this before in the leaked screenshots. Apps and widgets seem to be the default but the good thing is that you can make custom categories and put apps in them. The demo unit had categories such as 'Games', 'News', 'Sports', etc. It remains to be seen whether these have to be created manually or if the OS can create them automatically as well, if you have more than one app from a certain category.
  • A cool new feature is the ability to preview widgets from the app drawer.
  • There is a new Gmail app. In landscape more, it splits the screen in two, with the inbox on the left and a preview of the mail on the right. This is similar to the Gmail app in Honeycomb. This would be useful on the 4.65-inch of the Nexus Prime but probably not so much on phones with smaller display.
  • There is a new calendar app along with a new widget for the same.
  • The internet browser has also been updated. The tabs are on the bottom of the display now, as in Opera Mobile/Mini. It’s also faster and smoother than before. There is also a new icon for it.
That’s all the user had to say about the OS. It leaves you wanting for bit more but still that’s a lot more than what we knew till now. And although there could be some doubts regarding the authenticity of this information to us it sounds fairly accurate.
The Nexus Prime certainly seems like an awesome device but Ice Cream Sandwich could have been more impressive. Having said that, there is still some time left for the official release so we will reserve our judgment till then.
