Samsung Electronics has successfully sold 10 million units of its Android-powered Galaxy S smartphone in less than seven months after the device was launched. For your info, the Samsung Galaxy S was introduced at CTIA Las Vegas in March 2010. The Android-powered smartphone incorporates a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a 1GHz mobile processor that enables vibrant HD videos, rich augmented reality content through Layar Reality Browser, and advanced LBS (Location Based Services).

Dell has finally launched the Dell Venue Android handset in India. For your info, the Dell Venue comes jam packed with the Google Android 2.2 Froyo OS, a 4.1-inch WVGA AMOLED touchscreen display, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS, an 8MP AutoFocus camera, a 1GHz processor and a microSD card support (up to 32GB). Sadly, there is no info on pricing of the Venue for the Indian market. Stay tuned for more updates.

Samsung has recently unveiled another one of its upcoming Android smartphone namely the Samsung SHW-M190S. Coming in a candybar form factor, the handset packs a 4-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED touchscreen display, a 1GHz processor, a 5.0-megapixel camera, a 16GB of internal memory, a microSD card slot (up to 32GB), GPS, T-DMB, WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, an HDMI port and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo OS. Pricing and release date are still unknown at the moment.

The LG Optimus 2X will be launched in Europe next month with exclusive music created by Ennio Morricone. Included amongst the 25 compositions will be 15 exclusive new tracks alongside 10 of Morricone’s best-known compositions, including music from Cinema Paradiso, The Mission and Love Affair. In addition to these ringtones, LG will also develop a range of apps with Morricone-related content such as images and video clips. These contents will be available for free download from the LG Application Store starting next year.

Word has it that the Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone will be launched in the UK in April 2011. This highly anticipated handset will be introduced at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona in February 2011. According to previous leaks, the phone will come in a slider design similar to the PSP Go and feature a dedicated gaming pad and the PlayStation square, cross, triangle and circle buttons. The Sony Ericsson PlayStation phone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, a 512MB of RAM, a 1GB of ROM and a 4.1-inch display screen.

LG has come out with another dual SIM phone called the LG A155. Coming in a candybar form factor, the handset packs a 2-inch 144 x 176 TFT display, dual SIM card slots, a 1MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot (up to 2GB), an FM radio, a music player, Bluetooth and supports for GSM/GPRS/EDGE network. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing yet.

From now through January 8th, 2011, Sprint offers the Sanyo Zio for free with a new two-year contract agreement. A new dual SIM music phone from Philips has recently entered the Russian market. Known as the Xenium X513, the handset sports a 2.2-inch 320 x 240 TFT display, a 2-megapixel camera with LED flash, dual SIM card slots, a microSD card slot (up to 16GB), a media player, an FM radio, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headset jack, a 2000mAh battery and supports for GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) network. The Philips Xenium X513 sells for 4,999 Rubles (about $162).

Vodafone UK has issued the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the HTC Wildfire, which is known as one of the company’s cheapest Android smartphones. Unfortunately, only users in Europe will get the update now, but HTC promises users around the world will also have it in February 2011. As a reminder, the HTC Wildfire comes jam packed with a 3.2-inch QVGA touchscreen display with the Sense UI, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3.5mm headset jack, a Stereo FM radio with RDS, an HTML browser, a social networking integration (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace) and a 5MP AutoFocus camera with flash.

Cricket Wireless is about to launch a new touchscreen phone ‘Suede SCH-r710′ from Samsung that will come with Cricket Unlimited Muve Music Service. This new service will provide unlimited access to millions of songs, ringtones and ringback tones, in addition to unlimited access to voice, Web, text, video and more. As for the specs itself, the handset will sport a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, a 3-megapixel camera, a virtual QWERTY keyboard, a 135MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot (up to 16GB), 3G, an accelerometer sensor and social networking integration (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace). The Samsung Suede SCH-r710 will go on sale in January for $199, while Cricket’s unlimited plan that includes Muve Music is $55 per month.

Samsung has teamed up with FC Bayern Munchen to release a limited edition of its first Bada-based smartphone, the Wave S8500. Dubbed as the Samsung Wave Bayern Munchen Edition, the phone comes equipped with a pre-installed Bayern Munich app, free access to T-Mobile’s “LIGA total!” mobile TV service for three months and a €65 ($85) voucher that can be used for buying gifts from the Official FC Bayern Munchen Online Shop. The Wave S8500 Bayern Munchen Edition should be available across Germany starting this month for €429 ($564).

Motorola plans to release a couple of new DEFY-like rugged handsets in the summer of 2011. These upcoming rugged handsets will still carry the IP54 International Protection code for rugged handsets, which grants them “a degree of protection against falling dirt, rain, sleet, snow, and windblown dust. As a comparison, the Motorola DEFY supports the IP67 code for a waterproof rugged device. What’s more, the upcoming Motorola rugged phones should use a candybar form factor similar to the DEFY. Sprint has announced the availability of the Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for Samsung’s entry-level Intercept. The DL05 update also improves Sprint Navigation and fixes for inadvertent force closures and dropped calls. The Android 2.2 (Froyo) update will be released in batches by Google, so you might have to wait for some time. Nokia’s business-oriented E7 smartphone has unfortunately been delayed until early next year. The push back has been justified through the need of delivering the ‘best user experience’. A spokesperson from Nokia stated that the delay was to “ensure the best possible user experience” on the device. As a reminder, the Nokia E7 features a 4-inch AMOLED display, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, a 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera with 720p video recording capabilities, dual-LED flash, an HDMI port, a 1,200mAh battery and Symbian^3 operating system.

For the reason of software dissatisfaction, Sony Ericsson Yendo which was previously announced in June got postponed to February 2011, even after a bunch of promotional pictures has been leaked to several media. This delay happens worldwide. Hopefully, this ‘Walkman player’, 2.6 inch QVGA touchscreen display, 3.5 mm headset jack, ‘Touch TrackID’, Bluetooth, social networking integrated (Facebook, Twitter, Orkut), Google search, 2MP camera and MicroSD card support but without 3G phone sales won’t get too much impact from this delay. Sony Ericsson Yendo might not be as equal as iPhone however, considering its friendly price, this phone might just suit most people needs.
