South Koreans just got their version of the LG Star officially announced. Dubbed LG SU660 Optimus 2X, the smartphone made its first official appearance on the Asian shores, but the even better news is that its worldwide availability is fast approaching.
Unfortunately LG kept their tradition and revealed next to none of the new handsets's specifications (not to mention the lack of an official photo). Good thing a preview surfaced the other day and did the job for them.
We did stumble upon a new video though, which showcases the Optimus 2X computing prowess. In case you’ve been wondering how much of an improvement the dual-core Tegra is over the current best CPUs, you should definitely check it out. The Hummingbird-powered Galaxy S gets a trashing it won’t be forgetting anytime soon. While one synthetic benchmark is not necessary too meaningful for the real-life performance, the SU660 Optimus 2X certainly possesses impressive computing skills.
LG had a pretty quiet 2010, but could it produce the smartphone to get in 2011? The good news is that LG Benelux has got itself a new domain - the LGOptimus2X.nl, so an European announcement might not be too far away.
LG is such a tease - it took a few leaks and a sort-of-official announcement, but it is finally confirming some of the specs for the LG Optimus 2X - dual-core Tegra 2 at 1GHz, 1080p video recording and Froyo are a go, but some other specs are still missing.
In Tuesday, while announcing the LG Optimus Mach LU3000, LG made a veiled mention of the LG Optimus 2X (formerly rumored as Star). Now, they have issued a proper press release confirming the most exciting parts of the rumored specs.

The LG Optimus 2X will be the first Tegra2-powered GSM smartphone ever and the dual-core Cortex A9 really showed in early benchmarks. The NVIDIA SoC also enables Full HD (1080p) playback andrecording via the 8MP primary camera.
The HDMI port on the Optimus 2X can output Full HD video (unlike current phones, which top out at 720p) and with DLNA support you can play video on a compliant TV without a cable or alternatively pull video from a home DLNA server.
Other confirmed specs include a 4" WVGA screen, a secondary 1.3MP video-call camera, some 8 gigs worth of storage, a microSD card slot and a 1,500mAh battery. Here's hoping that the Tegra 2 in the LG Optimus 2X is not twice as power-hungry as single-core CPUs.

Finally, the OS has been confirmed as well - the Optimus 2X will launch with Android 2.2 Froyo and will eventually get updated to 2.3 Gingerbread. Phone dimensions, GSM bands and some other specs are yet to be announced.
The LG Optimus 2X will be launching next month in South Korea (as the LG SU660) and will be coming westward toward Asia and Europe after that (but no exact date was given). The Gingerbread update timeframe will be announced later too.Source
Dell Thunder released as the Venue name in Korea, costs $600
Dell Thunder premieres in Korea under the Venue name. Dell Venue packs 4.1-inch AMOLED display covered with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and runs on Android v2.2 Froyo.
We were waiting for the official announcement of Dell Thunder since itsfirst leak back in April. But it's just now that the ex-Thunder becomes official. It's called Dell Venue and will be launched in Korea this month for about $600.
The name is rather interesting, since Dell already got a similar name for their Windows Phone 7-running and QWERTY-packing Venue Pro.
Dell Venue features 4.1-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive display covered with the scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, 8 megapixel camera with HD recording and all-round connectivity. Dell was mum on the rest of the specs but we guess the long rumored specifications should be correct.
There is no info or any plans about an international premiere, but we guess it won't take long.
LG is on a roll - just a day after the LG Optimus 2X powerhouse went official, LG officially confirmed the existence of LG B. It's a super-thin droid with a screen that might turn out better than both Retina and SuperAMOLED.
The LG B first showed up in spy shots comparing it to the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S. Those are two of the thinnest, most popular smartphones with the best screens in the industry - and from the photos it seems that the LG B has them beat on their own turf.

The 4" screen on the LG B seems brighter than both the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S screens - and according to some rumored specs it's very power efficient. The screen is supposedly an IPS LCD unit (same basic technology as Retina) and yet draws no power when showing a black screen - something that should only be possible with OLED and not LCD, so we're taking this with a pinch of salt.

The LG B is also reportedly super-thin - thinner than the 9.9mm Samsung Galaxy S and even the 9.3mm Apple iPhone 4. There's no info on how thin exactly it is though, but anything less than 9.3mm with a 4" screen would look incredibly thin (though maybe fragile too).
Anyway, the best news is that LG officially confirmed via Twitter that the LG B exists and we'll see it at CES 2011. The original tweet has been deleted (though there are other tweets referencing the LG B) and Twitter isn't always the most reliable of sources. We won't have to wait long to find out the truth though - CES starts January 6.
The affordable Acer beTouch E140 first popped up a couple of weeks back but this time it's not yet another rumor involving its name that caught our attention but Acer itself who has just officially it.
As expected, the Acer beTouch E140 runs Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo (which isn't the latest Android version anymore) and comes in a tiny little plastic shell with a 2.8" resistive touchscreen of OVGA resolution on the front and a 3.2MP camera (it's not clear yet if it packs autofocus but there is no flash for sure).
The 200-euro smartphone also touts diverse connectivity options (including support for HSPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), sports an inbuilt GPS receiver and is powered by a 600MHz processor.
Sadly, Acer didn't say a thing about the E140 availabity.

LG U3000 Optimus Mach
LG LU3000 Optimus Mach has already leaked once, but it’s time for its official premiere. The Android Froyo –running handset will hit South Korea any moment, but it’s unclear whether it will reach the rest of the world.
LG Optimus Mach uses the TI OMAP 3630 platform based on a 1GHz ARM A8 Cortex processor. The recently leaked benchmarks show the platform is quite a performer and in some cases it even outperforms competing 1Ghz custom Cortex A8 chips used on the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S.
The rest of the specs include a 3.8-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with HD video recording, all-round connectivity and an HDMI port.
LG LU3000 Optimus Mach
LG has collaborated with Ennio Morricone to bring his music on the Optimus Mach. The handset will pack unique ringtones and some theme songs from famous movies.
LG Optimus Mach is available in black and white and should start selling in South Korea any moment now.
LG also presented the Korean variant of their Optimuch Chic. The model number is LU3100 and the handset should start shipping within a week. Here are some pictures:
Motorola 10-inch Honeycomb tablet leaks again, confirms a front-facing camera and Verizon allegiance
At this rate there won’t be much left for Motorola to announce when they eventually get round to unveiling their new tablet. The latest batch of leaked photos confirms that the Android Honeycomb-running slate will pack a front-facing camera and will be headed to Verizon.
The leak source confirms the rumored 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU and the 10-inch 1280 x 800 pixels resolution (though the aspect ratio seems different in those shots). The available RAM will be 512 MB and there will be 32GB of internal storage (expandable by another 32GB thought the microSD slot). A standard micro-USB jack (Yay!), a mini-HDMI port and a 3.5mm standard audio jack also got verified.

Netbook Cr-48 specs revealed, Google kills 25 netbooks on video to show how good cloud computing is
There are two ways to tear down a Cr-48 netbook – the right one and the rough one. One user has already disassembled the first Chrome device and the insides are pretty much the same as I suspected.
But Google took the tear down to a whole new level. It destroyed brutally 25 Cr-48 netbooks in some crazy ways and shot the entire thing on video. Watch!
The purpose of this demonstration was to show us that no matter happens to our netbook, all of our data will be safe. It isn’t something we didn’t know from day one, but now I’m sure there will be no doubts.
The disassembled Cr-48 reveals an Atom N455 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 16GB SanDisk SSD and Hynix RAM chips (possibly 1GB). Perhaps the 16GB-only disk explains the incapability of dual-booting Chrome OS with Windows – there is not enough room for both.

Anyway, the first retail devices will hit the shelves in mid-2011 and their specs might be surprisingly different from the Google’s test netbook.
New two-, three- and six-core AMD CPUs are 100MHz faster, get benchmarked extensively
AMD is launching a few slightly upgraded CPUs. The first is a new six-core AMD Phenom II X6 1100T, which is clocked 100MHz higher than its predecessor. And from the Island of Misfit Toys come the new X3 and X2 Athlons, which are getting a similar speed bump – and in the spirit of holiday gift-giving, the new X3 is priced the same as the older, slower X3…
The AMD Athlon II X3 455 is clocked at 3.3GHz, up from 3.2GHz of the 450, and costs the same. The Phenom II X2 565 got a 100MHz bump too (to 3.4GHz) but it costs $10 more than the previous model.
Both these X2 and X3 CPUs are actually quad-cores with one or two defective cores. If you’re really lucky, those cores might just be disabled but otherwise working cores, opening up the possibility for getting one more core for free (again, if you’re really lucky).
The AMD Phenom II X6 1100T enjoys a speed bump of 100MHz as well – it’s clocked at 3.3GHz (up from 3.2) and the maximum Turbo Core (AMD’s Turbo Boost) frequency is 3.7GHz (up from 3.6). The 1100T is a good $30 pricier than the 3.2GHz 1090 though.
Check out the performance benchmarks of these CPUs – the six-core X6 1100T struggles against a quad-core i5 when the task at hand is not much multithreaded, but on proper multi-threading tests it pulls ahead, even breathes down the neck of some i7 processors.
Samsung unveils W899 clamshell Froyo smartphone
The announcement of one of the most peculiar Android smartphones took place in China yesterday. Samsung unveiled their W899 clamshell running on Froyo that will be available to China Telecom subscribers.
The Samsung W899 comes with both CDMA and tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) radios and sports a couple of 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens of WVGA resolution. Of course the form factor and the two large display come at a price – the W899 is some good 17.5mm thick.
Some of the other highlights of the new Froyo smartphone by Samsung include a 1GHz processor, 3G, Wi-Fi, and 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording. Bluetooth and GPS almost come without saying nowadays. Finally, there’s a microSD card slot for expanding the available storage memory.
Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that this interesting looking handset will ever make it to European or American shores.
The Motorola XT800+ is the luxurious, faster and Froyo-running XT800 GLAM twin brother
Motorola does well two things: making customers angry by not releasing software updates for its handsets on time or at all and designing mobile phones. Indeed, the recently unveiled Motorola XT800+ is among the best looking Android phones launched this year. Oh, and it is smart, too.
The adorable Motorola XT800 GLAM hasn’t made it to the Europe yet (it’s been only available in China and South Korea for a little while) but apparently it never will: it’s successor, the Motorola XT800+ has just showed up.
The hottie has inherited lots of its predecessor’s features but brings along a handful of new things too. It looks even sexier now, with a tanned chocolate brown body, golden metallic frame and leather back cover.
While the 3.7″ capacitive touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 854 pixels), the 5MP autofocus camera with 720p HD video recording, the 512MB RAM and most of the other goodies remained untouched but there is one major improvement – the XT800+ arrives with a fast 1GHz processor replacing the old 550MHz one.
On top of that, the newbie is based on the Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo (unlike its Eclair-serving bro, the XT800).
The Motorola XT800+ should already be available at the China Telecom stores across the country.
