LG To Launch Mobile 3D TV AT CES 2011

Yesterday we saw the new 72 inch LED 3D TV from LG, and now it seem LG also has some much smaller 3D TVs planned , as the company intends to launch a mobile 3D TV.

LG are expected to reveal this new 3D mobile TV at CES 2011, and it will be powered by an LG2161R MDTV chip with NRT (non Real Time) technology.

The LG mobile 3D TV will be able to receive 3D TV signals when you are travelling at speeds of up to 200 km/h so it is obviously designed to be used by people who do a lot of travelling or those who own a fast car.

Asus Teases Eee Pad Tablets Before CES 2011

One thing we know we are going to see a lot of at CES 2011 is tablets, and now Asus has released some photos of three new Asus tablets that they will be showing off at CES in January.

Unfortunately there are no specifications, just a few photos which only show us a small part of the device, although we can work out that one of the tablets will be like a tablet PC with a keyboard whilst the other two will be touchscreen only tablets like the iPad.

It will be interesting to see what the Asus tablets are like, and as soon as we get some more information on the specifications on this new range of Asus tablets we will let you guys know.

Next Windows OS

The first public glimpse at the next version of Microsoft's Windows could happen as soon as next month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

That's according to The New York Times, which has posted areport detailing the software giant's tablet-centric CES keynote plans, including at the bottom the Windows 8 bombshell.

Thus far Microsoft has remained tight-lipped about Windows 8, though there have been leaked documents, job postings, PowerPoint presentations, and nebulous release dates written in Dutch, that have helped paint a clearer picture of its possible launch timeline and planned feature set.

Along with what could be a live demonstration of the yet-to-be-announced operating system, The Times says Microsoft also intends to unveil a Web app platform. This would offer HTML5-centric Web apps in a similar fashion to Google's efforts with its Chrome Web Store; however, The Times says Microsoft's intentions are to make it fully distributed. Such a feature would seemingly go against the leaked slides that pointed toward Microsoft building a centralized software marketplace into Windows itself.

The Times also goes into some detail about Microsoft's tablet unveilings, which are said to include a Samsung-made, Windows 7 slate. Unlike most in that class, this one will include a slide-out keyboard (akin to a smartphone), and is said to be "similar in size and shape to theApple iPad", albeit a bit thicker.

Microsoft's CES keynote this year included just a handful of tablets, including one from Hewlett-Packard, which later became the Slate 500. An analyst report from Goldman Sachs posted over the weekend said the company is currently in danger of losing some of its top-line revenue next year, due in part to its approach to mobile devices--both phones and tablet PCs. We'll certainly get a clearer picture of what 2011 holds in store for both of those devices come next month.

Pantech released smartphone contains DDR2 memory to boost its speed

Pantech is one of global mobile phone manufacturer in Korea beside of Samsung and LG. Pantech achieved top 2 market share in Korea in smartphone category after Samsung. This means LG become a 3rd place. (except Apple iPhone) Pantech did great product released in 2010 especially smartphone lines against local competitors like Samsung and LG.

Pantech just released last smartphone in 2010, call “VEGA Xpress”. What’s difference among else? Have you ever heard about DDR2 memory? Yes, we open hear about this in PC but, not in mobile phones right?

Pantech announced PC may end up within next 5 years and smartphone (maybe include mobile tablets) will replace this market. Having a DD2 memory didn’t let those smartphone to replace PC but, I agree PC will face tough moment in next few years if a mobile device gets better and better like past few years.

Pantech Vega Xpress gets DD2 memory to have 1.5 times faster than previous models and it will boost internet surfing and application speed close to PC. Furthermore, Vega Xpress have Qualcomm’s 2nd generation CPU “MSM8255” to improve 3D graphic speed up to 2 times better and have power efficient like 2~3 times better.

Smatphone market seems begins to compete its speed from 2011, there could be CPU and memory improve but, I think key component on this will be OS which not belong to those manufacturers except Apple or Google. Without support of Google, those android phone manufacturers will face hard time to improve its smartphone’s speed.

Also, there are limitations of application or contents that require to have faster CPU on smartphone. If smartphone gets faster CPU and bigger LCD, you may end up your phone as “Galaxy Tab” sized. And you can call my phone replaced my PC too.

MSI to reveal "fastest notebook on Earth"

(Credit: MSI)

Almost everyone in the tech world is gearing up for CES 2011 next month and MSI is no exception. The computer maker has just announced plans to debut many new laptops at the tradeshow in Las Vegas come January.

Not exactly earth shattering news, but it's still nice to have something to look forward to. The best of the bunch is the GT680, already being touted by MSI as the "fastest notebook on the planet" with MSI's Turbo Drive Engine+ technology. We'll have to wait and see if that is truly the case, but it should be exciting to see soon.

Other big releases include new notebooks in the following categories:
  • G Series (Gaming)
  • F Series (Ultimate performance laptops; includes latest Intel processors and THX TruStudio Pro)
  • C Series (Stylish multimedia laptops)
  • X-Slim Series (Ultra-thin, ultra-light laptops)
  • Wind U netbooks
  • WindPad tablets

Universal wireless charger ElectroHub to debut at CES 2011

The ElectroHub wireless charging station comes with compliant batteries to replace your electronics' originals. (Credit: ElectroHub)

Wireless charging stations for electronics have been a hot topic ever since the introduction of the Powermat and the universal wireless charger standard was established. These methods, however, require the battery-operated devices to be compliant with the wireless charging standard they use. This means other products, namely the majority of all electronics, won't be able to take advantage of them.

The ElectroHub, which will debut at CES 2011, is a new wireless charging station that's designed to work with virtually all electronic devices. Though the details are still a little sketchy, basically this new charging station works similarly to the way the Powermat does, but instead of requiring the electronic device to be complaint (i.e., by using a special case), it provides ElectroHub batteries, which come in standard sizes like AA and AAA.

By swapping the device's original battery for an ElectroHub battery, you'll turn it into one that's ElectroHub-compatible, and now you can charge it just by putting it on top of the ElectroHub. The hub--measuring 9.2 inches by 6.1 inches by 0.8 inch (233 x 155 x 20mm) and weighing only 11 ounces (312g)--is designed to charge up to six devices at a time.

Obviously, there are devices that have nonreplaceable batteries. In this case, the user can get a protective case that works as a converter to charge the device's internal battery with the hub, similar to how the Powermat works.

The ElectroHub is slated to be available during the first quarter of 2011 and will cost US$39, which includes one set of ElectroHub batteries. Other battery sets can be purchased separately and are estimated to cost another US$10, which is about the same price as a set of generic rechargeable batteries.

Sanyo's compact solar for emerging markets

(Credit: Juniper Foo/CNET Asia)

It isn't the first time eneloop battery maker Sanyo is coughing up a compact solar charger. But as next-gen products go, this one ups the ante by being more portable, more affordable and more multifunctional, just so it's viable for emerging markets like India and Myanmar.

For lug-worthiness, the yet-unnamed "Compact Solar" prototype, unveiled at a media showing mid-week, is half the size of its closest cousin, the Solar Light charger. It's when you flip it sideways that its Twiggy-thin heft is most noticeable, save for the base where two AA-sized rechargeable batts slot in. This new feature is intended to give the Compact Solar the flexibility to either juice up a couple of rechargeable cells or directly power up mobile devices via USB. When not carrying out charging duties, it's also a decent night light.

According to Hong Swee Lau, Sanyo Energy (S) Corp's senior manager of regional sales and marketing department, the Compact Solar aims to cost "20-50 percent less" than the market-going sticker price of S$250 for most solar chargers. It's also slated for a second-half 2011 release.

Meanwhile, as part of its fifth anniversary, its eneloop tones glitter batteries will be brought in to Singapore possibly in May, though Sanyo was mum on further details. Designed to appeal to the younger crowd, the limited-edition rechargeable cells come in eight sparkly hues.

The Compact Solar may be lightweight, but comes with some heavyweight features, such as a slot for charging rechargeable batteries, LED lights on the back, and USB charging functionality. (Credit: Juniper Foo/CNET Asia)

LG Optimus 2X

South Koreans just got their version of the LG Star officially announced. Dubbed LG SU660 Optimus 2X, the smartphone made its first official appearance on the Asian shores, but the even better news is that its worldwide availability is fast approaching.

Unfortunately LG kept their tradition and revealed next to none of the new handsets's specifications (not to mention the lack of an official photo). Good thing a preview surfaced the other day and did the job for them.

We did stumble upon a new video though, which showcases the Optimus 2X computing prowess. In case you’ve been wondering how much of an improvement the dual-core Tegra is over the current best CPUs, you should definitely check it out. The Hummingbird-powered Galaxy S gets a trashing it won’t be forgetting anytime soon. While one synthetic benchmark is not necessary too meaningful for the real-life performance, the SU660 Optimus 2X certainly possesses impressive computing skills.

LG had a pretty quiet 2010, but could it produce the smartphone to get in 2011? The good news is that LG Benelux has got itself a new domain - the LGOptimus2X.nl, so an European announcement might not be too far away.

LG is such a tease - it took a few leaks and a sort-of-official announcement, but it is finally confirming some of the specs for the LG Optimus 2X - dual-core Tegra 2 at 1GHz, 1080p video recording and Froyo are a go, but some other specs are still missing.

In Tuesday, while announcing the LG Optimus Mach LU3000, LG made a veiled mention of the LG Optimus 2X (formerly rumored as Star). Now, they have issued a proper press release confirming the most exciting parts of the rumored specs.

LG Optimus 2X official photos

The LG Optimus 2X will be the first Tegra2-powered GSM smartphone ever and the dual-core Cortex A9 really showed in early benchmarks. The NVIDIA SoC also enables Full HD (1080p) playback andrecording via the 8MP primary camera.

The HDMI port on the Optimus 2X can output Full HD video (unlike current phones, which top out at 720p) and with DLNA support you can play video on a compliant TV without a cable or alternatively pull video from a home DLNA server.

Other confirmed specs include a 4" WVGA screen, a secondary 1.3MP video-call camera, some 8 gigs worth of storage, a microSD card slot and a 1,500mAh battery. Here's hoping that the Tegra 2 in the LG Optimus 2X is not twice as power-hungry as single-core CPUs.

A few more shots of the LG Optimus 2X

Finally, the OS has been confirmed as well - the Optimus 2X will launch with Android 2.2 Froyo and will eventually get updated to 2.3 Gingerbread. Phone dimensions, GSM bands and some other specs are yet to be announced.

The LG Optimus 2X will be launching next month in South Korea (as the LG SU660) and will be coming westward toward Asia and Europe after that (but no exact date was given). The Gingerbread update timeframe will be announced later too.Source

Dell Thunder released as the Venue name in Korea, costs $600

Dell Thunder premieres in Korea under the Venue name. Dell Venue packs 4.1-inch AMOLED display covered with scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass and runs on Android v2.2 Froyo.

We were waiting for the official announcement of Dell Thunder since itsfirst leak back in April. But it's just now that the ex-Thunder becomes official. It's called Dell Venue and will be launched in Korea this month for about $600.

The name is rather interesting, since Dell already got a similar name for their Windows Phone 7-running and QWERTY-packing Venue Pro.

Dell Venue features 4.1-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive display covered with the scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, 8 megapixel camera with HD recording and all-round connectivity. Dell was mum on the rest of the specs but we guess the long rumored specifications should be correct.

There is no info or any plans about an international premiere, but we guess it won't take long.

LG B with a Heart-beating display

LG is on a roll - just a day after the LG Optimus 2X powerhouse went official, LG officially confirmed the existence of LG B. It's a super-thin droid with a screen that might turn out better than both Retina and SuperAMOLED.

The LG B first showed up in spy shots comparing it to the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S. Those are two of the thinnest, most popular smartphones with the best screens in the industry - and from the photos it seems that the LG B has them beat on their own turf.

Spy shots of the LG B

The 4" screen on the LG B seems brighter than both the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S screens - and according to some rumored specs it's very power efficient. The screen is supposedly an IPS LCD unit (same basic technology as Retina) and yet draws no power when showing a black screen - something that should only be possible with OLED and not LCD, so we're taking this with a pinch of salt.

B is the LG B, S is the Galaxy S and R should be for Retina (the iPhone 4 display)

The LG B is also reportedly super-thin - thinner than the 9.9mm Samsung Galaxy S and even the 9.3mm Apple iPhone 4. There's no info on how thin exactly it is though, but anything less than 9.3mm with a 4" screen would look incredibly thin (though maybe fragile too).

Anyway, the best news is that LG officially confirmed via Twitter that the LG B exists and we'll see it at CES 2011. The original tweet has been deleted (though there are other tweets referencing the LG B) and Twitter isn't always the most reliable of sources. We won't have to wait long to find out the truth though - CES starts January 6.

Nokia C3-01

It’s been over a month since we met the pioneer of the Touch and Type series – the Nokia X3-02. Now it’s time for another really beautiful Touch and Type sibling – the Nokia C3-01.

It packs exactly the same features as the X3-02, but comes with the classic keypad and bets on completely metal body.

Nokia C3-01 Touch and Type is one of the very few device we loved the moment we opened the retail box. The design is awesome and it’s perfectly built. The resistive screen responsiveness is nearly at the same level as capacitive technology.

I can surely go on with the superlatives, but enough foreplay. Here is the video:

The reloaded S40 plus the minimalist and sexy design work perfectly. Our review is cooking right now and you can expect it soon. You can bet it will be quite positive.

Motorola 10-inch Honeycomb tablet leaks again, confirms a front-facing camera and Verizon allegiance

At this rate there won’t be much left for Motorola to announce when they eventually get round to unveiling their new tablet. The latest batch of leaked photos confirms that the Android Honeycomb-running slate will pack a front-facing camera and will be headed to Verizon.

The leak source confirms the rumored 1GHz Tegra 2 CPU and the 10-inch 1280 x 800 pixels resolution (though the aspect ratio seems different in those shots). The available RAM will be 512 MB and there will be 32GB of internal storage (expandable by another 32GB thought the microSD slot). A standard micro-USB jack (Yay!), a mini-HDMI port and a 3.5mm standard audio jack also got verified.

Netbook Cr-48 specs revealed, Google kills 25 netbooks on video to show how good cloud computing is

There are two ways to tear down a Cr-48 netbook – the right one and the rough one. One user has already disassembled the first Chrome device and the insides are pretty much the same as I suspected.

main Netbook Cr 48 specs revealed, Google kills 25 netbooks on video to show how good cloud computing is

But Google took the tear down to a whole new level. It destroyed brutally 25 Cr-48 netbooks in some crazy ways and shot the entire thing on video. Watch!

The purpose of this demonstration was to show us that no matter happens to our netbook, all of our data will be safe. It isn’t something we didn’t know from day one, but now I’m sure there will be no doubts.

The disassembled Cr-48 reveals an Atom N455 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 16GB SanDisk SSD and Hynix RAM chips (possibly 1GB). Perhaps the 16GB-only disk explains the incapability of dual-booting Chrome OS with Windows – there is not enough room for both.

Looks just like any other oversized netbook, right?

Anyway, the first retail devices will hit the shelves in mid-2011 and their specs might be surprisingly different from the Google’s test netbook.

New two-, three- and six-core AMD CPUs are 100MHz faster, get benchmarked extensively

AMD is launching a few slightly upgraded CPUs. The first is a new six-core AMD Phenom II X6 1100T, which is clocked 100MHz higher than its predecessor. And from the Island of Misfit Toys come the new X3 and X2 Athlons, which are getting a similar speed bump – and in the spirit of holiday gift-giving, the new X3 is priced the same as the older, slower X3…

gsmarena 001 New two , three and six core AMD CPUs are 100MHz faster, get benchmarked extensively

The AMD Athlon II X3 455 is clocked at 3.3GHz, up from 3.2GHz of the 450, and costs the same. The Phenom II X2 565 got a 100MHz bump too (to 3.4GHz) but it costs $10 more than the previous model.

Both these X2 and X3 CPUs are actually quad-cores with one or two defective cores. If you’re really lucky, those cores might just be disabled but otherwise working cores, opening up the possibility for getting one more core for free (again, if you’re really lucky).

The AMD Phenom II X6 1100T enjoys a speed bump of 100MHz as well – it’s clocked at 3.3GHz (up from 3.2) and the maximum Turbo Core (AMD’s Turbo Boost) frequency is 3.7GHz (up from 3.6). The 1100T is a good $30 pricier than the 3.2GHz 1090 though.

Check out the performance benchmarks of these CPUs – the six-core X6 1100T struggles against a quad-core i5 when the task at hand is not much multithreaded, but on proper multi-threading tests it pulls ahead, even breathes down the neck of some i7 processors.

Samsung unveils W899 clamshell Froyo smartphone

The announcement of one of the most peculiar Android smartphones took place in China yesterday. Samsung unveiled their W899 clamshell running on Froyo that will be available to China Telecom subscribers.

gsmarena 001 Samsung unveils W899 clamshell Froyo smartphone

The Samsung W899 comes with both CDMA and tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900MHz) radios and sports a couple of 3.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens of WVGA resolution. Of course the form factor and the two large display come at a price – the W899 is some good 17.5mm thick.

Some of the other highlights of the new Froyo smartphone by Samsung include a 1GHz processor, 3G, Wi-Fi, and 5MP camera with 720p HD video recording. Bluetooth and GPS almost come without saying nowadays. Finally, there’s a microSD card slot for expanding the available storage memory.

Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that this interesting looking handset will ever make it to European or American shores.

The Motorola XT800+ is the luxurious, faster and Froyo-running XT800 GLAM twin brother

Motorola does well two things: making customers angry by not releasing software updates for its handsets on time or at all and designing mobile phones. Indeed, the recently unveiled Motorola XT800+ is among the best looking Android phones launched this year. Oh, and it is smart, too.

main The Motorola XT800+ is the luxurious, faster and Froyo running XT800 GLAM twin brother

The adorable Motorola XT800 GLAM hasn’t made it to the Europe yet (it’s been only available in China and South Korea for a little while) but apparently it never will: it’s successor, the Motorola XT800+ has just showed up.

The hottie has inherited lots of its predecessor’s features but brings along a handful of new things too. It looks even sexier now, with a tanned chocolate brown body, golden metallic frame and leather back cover.

While the 3.7″ capacitive touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 854 pixels), the 5MP autofocus camera with 720p HD video recording, the 512MB RAM and most of the other goodies remained untouched but there is one major improvement – the XT800+ arrives with a fast 1GHz processor replacing the old 550MHz one.

On top of that, the newbie is based on the Android 2.2 a.k.a. Froyo (unlike its Eclair-serving bro, the XT800).

The Motorola XT800+ should already be available at the China Telecom stores across the country.
