Acer new smartphone - 480 x 1024 pixels

Acer has just announced one of the most peculiar, yet sweet sounding Android smartphones of the season. Packing the highest resolution display in the Android realm sans tablets, of course, but with a 4.8-inch screen, the new Acer smartphone may as well be competing with those instead.

The new handset doesn’t even have an official name yet, but we already know we wouldn't mind taking it for a spin even as it is.

The new metal-clad Acer smartphone leaked a few weeks ago, but only now that it’s officially announced we realize what a beast it actually is. The Froyo-running device comes with a huge 4.8-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 480 pixels (that's a pretty wide aspect ratio, if you ask us).

The new Acer handset is powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU and can capture 8 megapixel stills and 720p video. The highlights list continues with Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 14.4 Mbps HSDPA support and HDMI port. The final known specs include a six-axis gyroscope+accelerometer combo, LED flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera.

The price is yet to be revealed, but we will certainly be waiting eagerly for its launch in April 2011।

Motorola Olympus - Android and Tegra 2

Tegra 2 seems to be the hottest thing in Android town - the Motorola Olympus is yet another dual-core Android that has entered the rumor mill. Apparently, there is a second Olympus too though there's not a shred of info on it.

The Tegra 2 platform is becoming commonplace in rumors of upcoming high-end droid phones (like the LG Star) and tablets. It offers a dual-core CPU and can record 1080p video, so the Motorola Olympus is bound to have impressive specs.

Right now however, we don't know any of them. On the outside, it's similar to the Motorola Defy, but with (maybe) a bigger screen. Since the Olympus is based on a completely different platform (Tegra instead of TI OMAP) the rest of the Defy's specs don't really tell us much.

There have been a few phones recently that use name brand optics (like the Lumix phone or the LG L-03C with Lumix lens) but Motorola Olympus is probably just the codename and doesn't indicate Olympus optics.

Anyway, this Olympus is said to be headed to AT&T but the rumor mentions a second Olympus phone from Moto - what it is, however, is anyone's guess. It could be a non-AT&T version, a QWERTY version or it may not even exist - always take rumors with a pinch of salt.
