SolarMature – Solar Powered Reading Lamp
The SolarMature (odd name!) is a solar-powered desktop or bedside lamp that uses solar panels on the lampshade. The lamp is completely standalone, and doesn’t need to be near a power point. It can be used in the garden or in the home, however, you need to make sure it gets plenty of sun light if used indoors.
Suntrica SolarStrap – A Flexible Wearable Solar Panel
The Suntrica SolarStrap is a lightweight, flexible and wearable solar panel that can be integrated with clothing to create solar charging clothing. The internal battery is capable of storing 3.7 Wh, which is charged up by the solar panel.
Gramo Speakers – Solar-Powered Speakers
The Gramo Speakers are the creation of Pekka Salokannel. The speakers fold out into a gramaphone-styled speaker that you can connect to your music player. The top three panels of the speaker contain solar panels which are used to top up the battery on your MP3 player or iPod.
Video on Home Energy Microgeneration
I’ve found this short video on micro-generation for the home, which might be useful to those of you who are interested in creating their own mini power station at home. The video features ITV’s Dream Home’s Oliver Heath and Helen Steed, who is the Microgeneration Development Manager at npower.
The video focuses on explaining how easy it is to get started and how npower can help (so there’s a slight slant towards npower here). Oliver and Helen also talk about a new series of video guides on how to install solar panels in your home too!
Garden Solar Insect Zappers
The summer season is on the way, and the insects are out. Killing pests is hard work as it’s difficult to kill just a certain type of insects without harming animals and potentially humans. The Solar Insect Zappers are a set of 2 chemical-free solar-powered insect killing lamps.
Solar Powered Glowing Plant Pot
The Solar Powered Glowing Plant Pot is an attractive alternative to the boring old flower pots you might have around the home. Using a solar panel, the plant pot charges up during the day and gently glows during the night. Depending on how much sun light you get, you can get between 2 to 8 hours of glowing pleasure before the battery runs out.
Solar-Powered Eco House Electronics Kit
The Solar-Powered Eco House Electronics Kit is a great kit to get the kids interested in alternative energy whilst helping them to learn something too. The kit specifically teaches children about solar energy, as the solar panel can be used to power each of the LED sign display, the door sounds, and a windmill.
2C Solar-Powered Baseball Cap
I recently received a 2C Solar Cap to review, and I must say that I was very impressed with it. You’d expect it to be a silly gadget without any real purpose… but actually, it works perfectly for map reading at night. If you’re out hiking or camping, you usually need both hands free to do something, such as pitching a tent, cooking, or map reading. The 2C Solar Cap perfectly angles the bright white LED lights in front of you, making the cap very practical.
One-size-fits-all powermonkey eXplorer Solar Charger
With all the solar chargers hitting the market, the powermonkey eXplorer is a very full-featured charger gadget that easily beats the competition when it comes to features. Essentially the charger will charge up every phone, games console, MP3 player, etc that you throw at it. The edge is that it has an LCD display giving you the charging status, and it also acts as a travel charger.
Chromasun Solar Powered Hybrid Air Conditioner
If it’s a really hot summer, there’s no doubt that having an air conditioner will make the hot evenings a lot more bearable. However, air conditioners do use an incredible amount of electricity. A new company called Chromasun has announced their plan to release a highly efficient air conditioner unit.
