he Suntrica SolarStrap

The advantages of having a small solar panel are endless. I know mine has saved my rear on numerous occasions. However, even though mine is one of the smaller ones out there and it collapses to an even smaller size, it’s still just a little too big. I don’t like to have a lot of heavy items weighing down my purse and it does exactly that. Something as small as a luggage tag and just as flexible would make things a lot easier. Especially for the guys, at least I can stash my clunky solar charger in my purse. There’s no way a guy could carry it in his pocket. With this, it could easily slip into a larger sized pocket.

The Solar Powered Travel Bag

July 21st, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

solar-power-travel-bag

While you’re out traveling, especially if it’s in the great outdoors, your gadgets don’t always get the charge they really need. Which makes having a solar panel around extremely helpful. Well with this, not only would you have a way to charge your gadgets, but something to store them in as well. Be it while you’re out camping or just going from work to home, this would make things a little more convenient and not to mention eco-friendly.

The solar powered UVonion illuminates and sanitizes

July 20th, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

It might seem odd for someone to design a household product after an onion, especially a product that is meant to sanitize the interior of your home. However, that’s just what one designer, Yun Li, did. As to what possessed them to create an onion shaped UV light, I have no idea. No matter what the shape of the gadget though, it will sanitize your home. The best part is that it does this in an eco-friendly manner, which is always a bonus.

The Solar LED Flashlight

July 10th, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

solar-led-flashlight_1

Of all eco-friendly gadgets, a lot of the eco-friendly lights are my absolute least favorite gadget. Specifically the flashlights that are powered by being wound up. They always seem to be far too dim to actually see what it is you’re doing. Hopefully since this one is solar powered as opposed to the type that you wind up, they’ll be a little on the brighter side of things. Certainly the number of LED lights that they crammed into this flashlight will help at least a little bit.

Weather stations are one of those gadgets that are always handy to have around. You don’t have to watch the news to let you know the forecast for the day, instead you can just glance at this gadget. With this though it even keeps you posted on the temperature and humidity indoors at various places throughout your home. Which could come in handy in the winter to help you make sure that the whole house is staying plenty warm.

The Solar Power LED Vintage Camping Lantern

When it comes to camping lighting you typically get to choose between one that requires buying batteries or the slightly more old fashioned versions that require you to light them. Well this camping light features a vintage look, so you can feel like you’re using an old lamp. However, it uses solar power to keep the LEDs burning brightly, instead of running on the same thing a vintage lamp would run on. It’s definitely the best of both worlds, old look and new technology.

Solar Vest isn’t fashionable but charges gadgets

June 30th, 2009 by Ally in Solar Powered Gear

vest

This vest is probably not something you would wear if you’re even remotely worried about fashion. However, if you really just couldn’t possibly care any less, it would be useful. It is a solar vest, which would be blatantly obvious to anyone around you, purely due to the giant bold white lettering that states “SOLAR VEST”. That was kind of them to add that, just in case anyone should get confused.

Glastonbury Solar Tent from Orange

June 26th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear, Sport

tent-night_jpg_autothumb_w-550_scaleThe Glastonbury Solar Concept Tent definitely qualifies as Coolest Gadgets material, as it has more gadgets on it than MacGyver’s knife. The U.K. company Orange has called the Glastonbury as “the tent of the future”, but this is one that I want to take “out on the rough” right now.

The tent has photovoltaic fabric, specially coated solar threads woven into the fabric. It can capture the rays of the sun and use them for some juice later. Yes, you don’t worry about your GPS or mobile phone going dead on your next camping trip. Not only that, the tent has a wireless control hub that keeps track of the energy generated and consumed. This hub has an LCD screen and even has a wireless Internet signal.
