Hand Winding Solar Camping Lamp with Charger

May 22nd, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

I truly hate lanterns and for one simple reason. They take about six different D batteries to stay powered. Who honestly keeps D batteries around? I don’t think I even own any gadgets anymore that require that particular type of batteries. Well if you really don’t want to have to stock pile batteries, this small lantern uses other forms of power to make sure that your activities stay well lit.

Q-SOUND Solar-powered Headphones

May 21st, 2009 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, Conceptual Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

q-soundOf course, this isn’t the first time that we have reported on solar-powered devices that are designed for Digital Audio Players (DAPs), but the Q-SOUND, a concept device that is part headphones and part headband, definitely makes the most of days when the sun is beating down on your head.

As you can see, solar cells are placed directly on the user’s crown, absorbing valuable rays for power. Some of you might wonder how these solar cells can be curved when most are generally flat and stiff, but these cells are constructed of flexible plastic that uses silicon solar cells.

The Q-SOUND incorporates Bluetooth, which allows the user to sync their Bluetooth enabled mobile device for some wireless sound action. Not only can the user listen to their music, but he or she can also take phone calls from a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. In case Bluetooth isn’t available on the mobile device in use, a wired connection is also possible with the included 3.5 mm jack.

iUnika GYY Solar-powered Notebook

May 15th, 2009 by Mark R in Eco Gadgets, PC Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

iunika-gyyNetbooks are good to have around, aren’t they? And solar-power, that would save us a lot of energy if we used it on more of our mobile devices, wouldn’t it? Okay, enough of the rhetorical question lead-ins, what am I getting at?

A solar-powered netbook, of course. A European technology company known as iUnika has perfected one, and this product, also known as the GYY, is certainly nice enough to be the first solar powered netbook.

Actually, I don’t know if the GYY is the first solar-powered netbook, but it is certainly energy efficient enough, not to mention light. Please chime in with a comment if you know for sure that the GYY is the first, and feel free to check out the specs after the jump.

May 8th, 2009 by James in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear, Wacky Gadgets

wind_energizer1
Wind power is a viable alternative for green energy – particularly in arid areas where there’s plenty of wind, but little of anything else. Trouble is, that wind turbines aren’t as efficient as they should and need to be. A company named Leviathan Energy seems to have a very simply way to improve the efficiency of wind turbines … and it involves donuts.

Apartment sized solar cells could be a boom in the inner city

March 13th, 2009 by James in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

The advantage that houses in suburbia have over apartments in the City is that homeowners can install solar panels on their rooftops to save money on the every rising cost of electricity. Some can even take surplus energy produced by their solar panels and sell it back to the electric company at a tidy little profit. Most apartment dwellers don’t have that option as they don’t have a rooftop with which to install panels. But if they’re on the sunny side of the street, they may be able to install a new awning like product to do the same job.
