PROJECTOR RING IS A TRULY UNIQUE ONE OF A KIND ITEM

When you get married, you want everything to be special for you and your partner. And while the dress may be unique, the wedding itself may be just like someone else’s in the past. Especially when it comes to rings. For the most part, there seem to be only so many different variations you can have out there, unless you start thinking outside of the box, that is. For one man, he definitely thought out of the box, and managed to design a ring that’s probably one of the coolest little gadgets we’ve seen in a long time.

The designer, a man named Luke Jerram, worked with a jeweler Tamrakar to create the projector ring. It’s a wedding ring that features a built-in lens and a transparent slide that has an imago of himself and his bride. What makes it better, though, is when you shine a light through it. As you might imagine, that’s where the whole “projector” part comes into play.

And to make it better, the image can be replaced with another, so Jerram can keep his memories alive right there in his ring. Unfortunately, the projector ring is a one of a kind item, and the designers have no plans to create another one for anyone else. In fact, the designer goes as far as to say, “…I’m afraid you’ll have to make your own unique ring for your own unique partner!” If that’s not dedication, we don’t know what is. And at least Jerram has something that’s truly unique, almost as much as his wife.

Green Car Design

Green Car DesignFinally, the green car design is out. This green car which is powered by pipe dreams and plants, only this Photosynthesis car would use “Solar panels” and somehow to move about in town.

There is, unsurprisingly, no word on how designers Michal Vlcek and Klavir will leverage the power of plants to run the electric engine housed inside. But just see that “nano plastic” exterior – no undercoating necessary!

World is going to be Green….And that’s a great thing!

India’s first keyboard with new Rupee symbol key launched

It is a measure of just how integral a part of our lives technology has become that when the new Indian Rupee symbol was first unveiled last month, the first concerns most people had about it was how to type it on a keyboard. Well, if you are fed up of memorising weird keyboard shortcuts and downloading font packages, you can just go right ahead and purchase the TVS Gold Bharat, India’s first keyboard with a key for the new Rupee symbol. The key, as can be seen in the picture, is located above the tab key. It works just dandy with both Linux and Windows. Now, we are waiting for the first notebook with a dedicated key for the new Rupee!

Asus brings the NX90 notebook to India (hands-on)

The NX90 from Asus can be best described as a all in one sized notebook that can easily make it to your list of home decorating gadgets. Featured earlier at CES the Asus NX is a bulky aluminum built that weighs 4.4kgs with a 18.4″ screen. The notable change on the keyboard is the dual trackpad which weren’t able to justify, but the large wrist area not only adds to the aesthetics, it also gives enough comfort. Priced at Rs 1,31,999 ($2860) this ain’t a toy for everyone.

The NX series is being rolled out in India and just like Sony, Asus has hit the accelerator in the Indian market. Hoping to see the EeePad’s and other releases hit the markets along with the global launch.

And now…the first handset with a dedicated Rupee symbol key

Changing currency symbols can be a nightmare for techies, as they have to evolve new symbols, icons and shortcuts to allow users to enter the new symbol. And that has pretty much been the case ever since India changed its Rupee symbol, with software and hardware specialists working out ways of accommodating the new symbol. Of course, they can be an opportunity too. Some manufacturers have even taken this opportunity to come out with products that have dedicated keys for the new symbol. A few days ago, TVS came out with the first keyboard with a dedicated Rupee symbol, and now it is the turn of cellphone manufacturer Lava to introduce – yes, you guessed it right – a QWERTY cellphone with a dedicated key for the new Rupee symbol, the Lava B5. Incidentally, (more…)

Five reasons why the OlivePad will not dethrone the iPad

We got some time with Olive’s Android tablet, the OlivePad, which is the first 3G tablet in India and while we must confess to being rather impressed with it, we still think it is some way from knocking the iPad off most people’s list of preferred tablets. No, we are not saying that because we are Apple fan boys (for the record, we are not), but because for all its amazing features (support for expansion cards, high speed broadband connectivity, 3.0 MP camera, Android 2.1, decent battery life, GPS, phone calling ability, et al), the OlivePad gets outclassed by Mr Jobs’ tablet in five key areas.

A Man – Had No Food or Drink for 70 Years

A Man Pic Had No Food Drink 70 YearsPrahlad Jani – A man who is claiming not to have any food or drink since last 70 years is being held in a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gurjarat, where he is being closely monitored by India’s defence research organization, who believe he may have a genuine quality which could help save lives.

Can you imagine a person who is living without any food for last 70 yrs? Think again…

He has now spent more than 7 days without food or water under strict observation and doctors say his body has not yet shown any adverse effects from hunger or dehydration.

This man claims to have left home aged seven and lived as a wandering sadhu or holy man in Rajasthan, is regarded as a ‘breatharian‘ who can live on a ‘spiritual life-force‘ alone. He believes he is sustained by a goddess who pours an ‘elixir’ through a hole in his palate. His claims have been supported by an Indian doctor who specializes in studies of people who claim supernatural abilities, but he has also been dismissed by others as a “village fraud.”

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, whose scientists develop drone aircraft, intercontinental ballistic missiles and new types of bombs. They believe Mr. Prahlad could teach them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims to hang on until help arrives.

If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science,” said Dr. G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.

“We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all.”

So far, Mr. Prahlad has not eaten or drunk any fluids in six days and similarly has not passed urine or a stool in that time. He remains fit and healthy and shows no sign of lethargy. Doctors will continue observing him for 15 days in which time they would expect to see some muscle wastage, serious dehydration, weight loss, and fatigue followed by organ failure.

Most humans cannot survive without food for 50 days. The longest hunger strike recorded is 74 days.

Let’s see till when Mr. Prahlad keep his spirit up, BTW, hope for the best. It’ll be a new record for India.

Sidewinder – Another Wrist Mobile Phone

Sidewinder - Touchscreen Wrist Mobile PhoneBefore some time, we’ve posted sexy wrist mobile phone. Now, here’s another hot wrist mobile phone – Sidewinder, designed by Susan Cho, whose idea was to create a multi-touch cell phone that a person could wear on his/her wrist.

Do you think, this might be the next stage in technological development? Unfortunately, the multi-touch technology has not reach the phase in which it could be used in a device with such a small interface. Nevertheless, Sidewinder watch phone is still worth mentioning on Gadgets.

The designer says that the watch phone has several menus and boasts a number of tools such as contacts, keypad, GPS, maps and other features that can be found today on smartphones. In addition, the Sidewinder incorporates multi-touch technology.

So go and watch at least instead of buying it.

Vaporware, eh? India’s $35 tablet makes its appearance

After almost all tech pundits had dismissed it as “vaporware,” the Indian $35 tablet made a surprise appearance on NDTV’s Gadget Guru show. From what could be seen of the device, it was no show-stopper in the looks department, but it had a resistive touchscreen, ran Android, had 2GB memory (expandable), a camera and a host of connectivity options (including Wi-Fi and 3G). But what really mattered was the fact that India’s Human Resources Development minister, Kapil Sibal, stuck to his earlier statement that the device would be priced at $35 and attempts would be made to bring its price down to as low as $10. However, this (subsidised) price would apply only to the student community – those buying it from the commercial market might have to shell out a bit more. Either way, it would still be the cheapest tablet in the world by a few miles. We are not complaining. You can watch the episode of NDTV Gadget Guru that featured the tablet here.

Want to hard reset the Samsung Wave? Here’s how!

While we were quite impressed with the Samsung Wave, one problem that seems to have cropped up in the handset is the problem in doing a complete hard reset, taking the phone back to exactly the state where one bought it. Users who have found their phone acting funny or have simply wanted to wipe it clean before handing it over to a friend or reltaive have been unable to come across any “hard reset” options in the phone. There is a “Reset” option under Settings and also the option to “Clear Phone Memory,” but according to at least four different users, these actually leave data on the device – a device reviewer (who we will refrain from naming) could not find a way to remove his/her e-mail ID from the handset, in spite of multiple Resets and Clear Phone Memory attempts, while another found his/her Mini Diary entry remaining in place. From what we heard, neither the manual nor Samsung sales staff at different outlets seemed too aware of what to do.

Resetting the Samsung Wave

Well, we have chanced upon a solution - and it is not too complex. All you need to is actually type “*2767*3855#” (without the quotes, please) into the phone using the onscreen keypad and hey presto, it will revert to the factory state after a displaying a thoroughly ungrammatical message.

Nokia X3-02 – Twice the Input, Twice the Fun

Nokia is like the Star Forge of the mobile phone industry, within its halls and research and development laboratory must lay a vast, intricate network of automated machines designed to churn out new mobile phones and accessories almost every month. And if you thought you’ve seen everything Nokia has to offer then you probably haven’t met their latest creation – the new X3-02 handset. It merged the simplicity of a standard 12 button keypad and the functionality of a 2.4-inch QVGA touchscreen. The X3 Touch and Type phone is another of Nokia’s first that allows people to tap quickly on the bright color touch screen, as well as enjoy the convenience of the full keypad for fast fire text messages and phone calls – talking about having the best of both worlds. The Nokia X3 features a big screen with clear icons, menus text, vital keys such as the send and end keys, and dedicated function keys for important features like music and text messaging. The keypad is perfect for SMS and social networking where speedy and regular input is needed, while touch is ideal for other functions such as setting alarms, seamless browsing and controlling applications like music and games.

Also the new X3 is further enhanced by 3G, 802.11n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity. The entire gadget is enclosed within a stylish 9.6mm-thin brushed aluminum shell. Music junkies can improve the Nokia X3′s integrated speaker the new MD-11, a light pocket-size speaker with superb audio quality.

GRAVITY PHONE CONCEPT LOOKS COOL AND BULKY

Design concepts are interesting and often give us a glimpse into the future of devices of all types. A new phone design concept has turned up that is called the Gravity Phone

The Gravity Phone concept is a large looking handset with a HD resolution screen. It looks normal enough from the front with a big glossy screen and a couple of protruding angular shapes on the top and bottom.

Flip the phone over and those angular shapes you see from the front take on a new design. The backside of the phone looks like an “X” with a candy bar style phone laid over the top of an iPhone. The designer says the screen would be a 1080p unit and HDMI would be supported. I’m not sure how practical a design like this would be in the pocket.

November

It may be the far flung future but there are still hot phones to excite this winter with HTC’s Windows Phone 7 debut and Sony’s XPERIA-aping Walkman wonder making an appearance…

HTC ‘Gold‘ – Rumoured to be the Taiwanese manufacturer’s first bite at the Windows Phone 7 cherry (Ace permitting…), we all want to see what they can do with Microsoft’s shiny new phone platform.

They made Android sing (to the tune of a 58% increase in Q2 revenue, no less), they made Windows Mobile bearable…this one should be big.

Nokia E7 – A serious bid for messaging supremacy from Nokia here, as the E7 is rumoured to take an aluminium leaf out of the N8′s book when it comes to form factor whilst being powered by the new Symbian^3 operating system and packing an AMOLED display!

Rumoured to have a full-QWERTY keyboard and tilting touchscreen, could this be the ill-fated Nokia N97, done right? Let’s hope so.

Samsung i8700 Cetus - Question marks go here…we know nothing of this phone on the wires, but it is sure to be a huge one, judging by the choice of such a busy release window…

‘Cetus’ was the name of a sea monster in Greek mythology, although it is often called ‘the whale’ today, but is also a constellation of stars in the region of the sky known as the Water (cheers, Wikipedia!).

With ‘bada’ meaning ‘ocean’, does all this aquatic imagery point to a Samsung OS powered behemoth on the horizon? Let’s hope so.

Whilst we thought that the iPhone 4 had sucked the oxygen out of the mobile market, there still looks to be plenty of heat from rival phone makers in the coming months!

We’ll be sure to keep you informed of all mobile developments as they happen…be sure to keep it Omio!

Android though has its own charm because of being open source, because of the freedom of choosing from various handsets, because of the freedom of choosing the carrier of your own choice and what not. But still, it lags behind in competition with the iPhone because of several reasons, the top most among them is because it lacks quality applications.

And thats not only true for general utility or web applications, thats true for gaming apps too. Thought Android uses OpenGL for graphics purpose and they do have a pretty strong platform to support gaming, but due to some reasons the developers have not availed this opportunity and have left Android Marketplace with dry apps in which people show less interest, in comparison with the iPhone apps.

As mentioned earlier, mobile games on Android haven’t made quite an impression yet, like they have made on iPhone. To make things right, Sony Ericsson has planned (its a rumor actually) to launch a Playstation compatible cellphone running on Android 3.0 (Gingerbread, has yet to be released) and would bring PS titles to that platform. In other words, Sony Ericsson is planning to launch the next generation of PSP that has all the features of a Smart phone. Imagine that!

Engadget reports:

It seems that Sony Ericsson — a company that has yet to even introduce an Android 2.0 device — is at work on a project to redefine gaming on Google’s mobile platform. We now know (via a trusted source) that the company is actively and heavily developing a brand new gaming platform, ecosystem, and device (possibly alongside Google) which are already in the late stages of planning. And we’ve got the goods on it.

About the under-the-hood specs of this cellphone, its believed that it would run on a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a giant 3.7 inch display and a PSP-like keyboard and keys for the ultimate gaming experience. Thats a pretty smart move from the company as gamers usually prefer to feel the physical control for their game over any touch screen like stuff. The keyboard would be then obviously on the touchscreen.

They are also planning to create a separate application marketplace like Android Marketplace, dedicated to supported games only. Users would be able to instantly purchase and download the games to their phone.

Thats the details we have got our hands on so far. Stay tuned for more updates.

Indian tablet PCThe World’s cheapest tablet so fay by any means has been now introduced by an Indian company with a price tag of $35, aimed at students to help them with their education. The tablet runs on Android OS 1.6 and offers a resistive touchscreen.

The features which they have added in the tablet seemed pretty cool. It was not only the large size of touchscreen that captures my attention, but during the video they also mentioned the onboard peripherals attached to that tablet, which include SD card slot, SIM card slot (to access the internet through GSM or 3G cellular network) and if I’m not wrong then there was a USB port too.

Besides that, I also noticed a tiny joystick adjacent to the screen. They didn’t show in thevideo what was its purpose, but I do know that this tiny joystick could come really in handy if you are playing games on that device, or navigating through your music library.

They however, didn’t properly show the thickness or width of that gadget, but apparently it looked pretty fat. Just a guess after watching the video, not entirely sure about it. I’m guessing that $35 hardware which offers this much won’t be able to last quite long and the user would ultimately start to face some technical issues with their device, in the end the cost wouldn’t $35 only.

Talking about the user experience, its too early to comment because only the prototype has been demonstrated and the device has yet to debut. Considering the features of this tablet which was revealed, we hope that it would definitely be very helpful for third World countries to leverage their education system with quality

Seen Sixth Sense? Now See Mouseless!

Having a mouse to interact with a computer sounds as natural has our hands to eat, but then when the Sixth Sense guy Pranav Mistry thinks of this, you get mouseless! Pranav along with a couple of his colleagues Patti Maes and Liyan Chang has outed this concept that does away with the mouse and replaces it with actually, Nothing!

Using a IR Laser, Camera and some code magic, this thing can read your hand/finger making gestures or movements on the table top and interpret them. And whats really cool about this project is that the prototype seen here costs just $20. So this might well be a technology you would see inbuilt in future notebooks, afterall who wants to carry a external mouse for ever with a notebook? The mouse gestures and scrolling like the Magic Mouse guess would just be a little piece of software addition to this technology. Promising, exciting!

Relation between Cell Phone and Brain Tumor – Latest Study

Relation between CellPhone and Brain Tumor

Relation between CellPhone and Brain Tumor

A new bit of data has emerged about the idea of cell phones and the brain tumors.

Seems that Environmental Working Group released data just recently that detailed just how much radiation you’re sucking up when you’re on the phone actually and then Los Angeles Times followed that with a strange study. Check this out:

when the data from 23 studies was pooled together, there was no conclusive link between brain tumors and cell phone usages. This by itself would be interesting if not necessarily newsworthy, but when the Times jiggered the evidence a bit, comparing data from the “eight strongest studies”, they found out that cell phone users had between a 10 to 30 percent higher chance of getting brain tumors, with the more time spent on the phone being higher risk than those who spent less.

And then, here’s the weirdest point: seven out of eight of those “strongest studies” were all conducted by the SAME GUY IN SWEDEN.
