Modu T phone adds 3G, BREW and ditches jackets for FY hardware add-ons
Modu is back – their new Modu T phone marks a huge bump in the specs compared to the original model and revamps the concept of jackets with the new “fy” devices. It’s also the lightest touch phone in the world, says Guinness…
The Modu T phone has 3G connectivity with HSDPA and a built-in GPS receiver. It weighs an amazing 55 grams and is just 7.8mm thin. The screen is also the smallest touchscreen I’ve heard of – 2.2”, smaller than even the Samsung Champ and it’s 2.4” screen.
The Modu T phone • with boostify • sportfy • textfy
The T phone runs on the BREW platform (same as HTC Smart) and offers YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr integration. It comes with a 2GB microSD card and supports cards up to 32GB.

The Modu fy extras are the new jackets – they are extra hardware that can be attach to the Modu T phone and extend its functionality in a flexible way. Here are the planned fy extensins:
- camerafy – a 5MP camera for the Modu T phone
- sportfy – listen to music and get workout or lap info during training
- boostify – adds hands-free and loudspeaker
- textify – full QWERTY keyboard and 5MP camera (should launch in early 2011)
It’s certainly an interesting concept – plugging in new hardware to improve your phone. Whether or not this will catch up remains to be seen. Oh, and Modu are working on the W phone, which should like about the same as the T-phone, but will add Wi-Fi and more importantly Android OS to the mix.

Modu will unveil the first modular smartphone – the T-Phone – on 10.10.10
Modu is gathering the press on the magic 10 October to show the world their next modular phone. It’s called the T-Phone and runs on Android OS. Its core will pack touchscreen, 3G, Wi-Fi, 2GB internal storage and microSD card slot. As usual the rest of the features will depend on the jackets that’s on top.
The first modular phone by Modu had little market success. Only a month after its market launch in July 2009, Modu announced their plans for a smarter successor. It seems the time has come to show the world what the engineers have come up with this time.
The T-Phone is expected to be the lightest touch-based phone in the world. There is no more info on the specs, besides it will run the Android OS.
The interchangeable jackets that will complement the new Modu T-Phone should offer full hardware QWERTY keyboard, stereo speakers, gamepad-like controller, etc.
Let’s hope the T-Phone will do better than its predecessor. You can also check the official teaser website.

OTECH F1 phone has Quad SIM support, probably glows in the dark, too
Well, here’s something curious that popped into our email inbox – the OTECH F1. You might want to sit down for this – it has four SIM cars. Yep – four, 4, f-o-u-r. But wait, there’s more! All four cards are active all the time, not just one or two…
This is getting ridiculous – safety-razor level of ridiculous. It started of with one razor blade, uh sorry, SIM card, then came dual-SIM, then triple SIM and now this. Check the photos below – 4 SIM cards, 4 signal strength indicators and little use for such a thing.
Four – count them! – four SIM cards, all of them active
The OTECH F1 is interesting in a “Did they really do that?” kind of way. The looks (and QWERTY keyboard) borrow heavily from BlackBerry, but 2.4” screen is touch enabled. Take that, Torch.
The OTECH F1 subtly looks like a BlackBerry
Oh, and there’s a built-in TV receiver – PAL/NTSC/SECAM. FM Radio and Bluetooth are also available but it seems there’s only GPRS for Internet connectivity (shame, quad-3G would have been fast).
Look closely at the back – do you see the label next to the camera? Yep, it says “12.1”. I wouldn’t count on 12MP photos though.
12.1MP camera… label, but probably VGA camera • The menu looks familiar
I only wonder one thing really – have they got a SAR rating for this thing?
Vertu Constallation Quest new pics and first screenshots surface
Remember that classy and smart Vertu announced last week? We have some new photos and first screenshots of its Vertu-ish Symbian OS to show you.
Here are the new pictures, this time on a white background. Thankfully!
The screenshots show exactly what we expected – a re-skinned Symbian OS.
Digging into the menus:
And the Concierge services interface:
The most interesting part is the retail package contents. The Vertu Constallation Quest comes with two BP-4LV batteries, a 32GB microSD card, two micro USB cables (one for the charger and one for the computer connection), AV cable, Vertu wired headset, a polishing cloth and some paperwork.
Vertu is still mum on the detailed specifications, pricing and availability, but rumor hs it the price will be between 4000 and 7000 US dollars.

Panasonic shows Lumix phone at CEATEC, it’s headed for NTT DoCoMo
Panasonic promised and it has delivered – it revealed the Panasonic Lumix phone today. But the news isn’t good (if you live outside of Japan that is) as the phone appeared on the NTT DoCoMo booth at CEATEC, so chances of it dropping into our hands are pretty much nil.
At least now there are photos to gawk at and a video that shows all the stuff we can’t have…
Here are the basic specs. The Panasonic Lumix phone is a slider, it has a 13.2MP camera with a Lumix badge, 3.3” WVGA screen, 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi with DLNA, microSD card slot and measurements of 116 x 52 x 17.7mm, 146g of weight.
Panasonic Lumix official photos
It’s no go on optical zoom (like the Altek Leo has), the Panasonic Lumix phone has a digital zoom instead. As for the flash, it looks and sounds like a xenon unit (Google Translate called it “high intensity”, but there’s no official confirmation yet either way.
The Lumix phone will be available in Black, Blue, Gold and Pink. Check out the live photos and a video too.

Opera Mobile comes to Android, first beta available within a month
Android 2.2 Froyo comes with arguably the best web browser of all current mobile platforms, but you will hardly be able to tell that if you take a look at the Android Market. There are just so many alternative browsers available that you would think they are the hottest commodity around.
Mind you, I’m not complaining here – competition is a great thing and it’s the users that win the most in the end. That’s why the announcement that Opera is going to release their full-fledged Opera Mobile browser over the coming month is excellent news. (more…)

Nokia N8 battery test results are out: good but not the best
Hot on the heels of our full Nokia N8 review here come the results of the Finnish flagship’s battery test. With the N8 battery being non-user-removable (or at least not without a Torx screwdriver) the battery life will probably be more important to potential customers than usual.
The Nokia N8 managed to survive for 42 hours (or just under two days) (more…)

Greenpois0n is out, jailbreaks iOS 4.1 even better
The greenpois0n jailbreak is now available and does its magic to every iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and 3rd and 4th generation iPod Touch. It implements the GeoHot’s exploit used in hislimera1n jailbreak tool that was released this weekend.
The limera1n jailbreak was released only a few hours before the promised premiere of greenpois0n. That was the reason for its delay – the Chronic Dev Team that’s behind greenpois0n didn’t want to reveal its exploit to Apple and saved it for the next time.
The Chronic Dev Team implemented the limera1n exploit in the greenpois0n tool instead and it’s now available for public consumption. They claim greenpois0n is safer and more user-friendly, than the limera1n.
It’s compatible with Windows only (a Mac version is coming) and jailbreaks successfully iOS 4.1 on each and every iGadget.
Be aware that this won’t unlock your iPhone and for now, you should stay away from it if you already rely on hacking tools to get a carrier unlock.
You can get the greenpois0n from here.
